Thank You Johnson and Johnson - Variety

In the recent past  (Friday last week,) Students at Pt England School  were each given presents sponsored by the Johnson and Johnson company.

After a great assembly in the hall performing our items in front of the junior kids, a white van suddenly turned into our school car-park and stopped right in the middle. I could see red bags from the distance as everyone turned around.

Welcoming the people who had just arrived to the stage was Mr Burt with a funny smile. It seemed to be a surprise. But!! “Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.” We sang boringly. With enthusiasm, a girl whom had led the line onto the stage stepped forward. She was the owner for Johnson and Johnson. Wait, Johnson and Johnson??

Mr Burt said they were a group of elves who have come to deliver each one of us a CHRISTMAS PRESENT!! Wicked. Surprisingly, the elves made the their way to the van and came back with about 8 BIG sacks of presents.

At the end of the day, everyone went home happily with presents. I was given a wooden game names ‘Wood Worx.’

First of all I would like to thank the Johnson and Johnson company for a good surprise to our school. I appreciate what you have done to our school. Hopefully we will cherish it and learn something from it.
THANK YOU!

Who is the 'Banana Thief?' - Narrative Writing

With enthusiasm, I spread out a picnic sheet under the gigantic tree which blocked me from the bright sun. It was a hot day packed with many people whom came to visit the animals at the best zoo in town, 'Mysterious, Animal World!' In the distance were, rabbits endlessly jumping high in the air, turtles slowly crawling onto the sand as it dries itself in the sun, venomous snakes viciously spiking tongues through the glass window, and 'Monkeys,' the worst animals in town or should I say on earth.

Carelessly throwing my picnic basket and banana box in the shade, I started to walk through an adventurous aisle to have a look at the awesome view of animals. Keeping an eye under the tree which had suddenly zoomed out from the vision of mine , I had just realised that I've gone too far. Slowly stumbling back towards the tree, luckily everything was still in place since the very beginning.

"Should I visit the monkeys?" I humbly asked myself. Nah, just a waste of time. In the car park were entertaining elephants. So I decided to take a look.

Peeking out for the basket, I see that my banana box had gone missing! Worryingly running round and round to look for my bananas, 'Who has been a cheeky pants and decided to steal? Thats unusual in Animal World.’

From behind the tree was a wagging tail and on the other side w-w-was was BANANA PEELS!. Wondering what it was, I slowly sneaked up towards the left hand side which had banana peels.

Taking a deep breath, I faced my fears and confidently stood straight.
“MMOONNKKEEYYSS!!” Eating my banana......

'Slip, Slop, TOMATO FIGHT!'

France is pretty hot over here compared to Auckland.
Yes, yes I’m in France staying with my aunt Tania and Uncle Teanui for the holiday. AND EVERYTHING HERE WAS 1/2 price! Chhooiice, or should I say, ‘choix.’

My ‘family’ and I were in town shopping for something special...... They said it was a surprise for me. But goggles, togs, gloves, what were they thinking? All that I could think of being a surprise for me in France was swimming. But it was no difference to Auckland.

As I waited outside from the entrance door, an annoying voice from a speaker unexpectedly spoke up. The echoing vocal came from far away in all different directions. Panicking, I ran inside to my cousins and told them what I had saw and heard. ‘Don’t worry Raphael, your surprise is COMING NEAR!’ They answered horridly.

From the distance, every single person from outside faced to the biggest tower in town. WHAT!? I don’t get it. Suddenly, the tower squirted out blood and created a stream which flowed near us!

Frightfully dropping my jaws with horrific feelings, a war began! “What’s that smell? OMG, its tt-tt-ttoomm..... TOMATOES!”

Within a minute or two of crazy clowns fighting and enjoying themselves, I became irritated with people spiking me in the face big time. So my only choice was to join them.

Slipping and slopping in the Tomato pool, I had the best time of my life. Benecio, Aaron and I jumped off from the high buildings down to the refreshing tomato which shivered me up.

With embarrassment, my cousins and I were growled at for joining in without the rest of the family and had to go home. Apart from that, tomatoes made my day.

'Who let the Crocodile OUT!?'

“Son, hop in the car we’re goin’ to Aunt Bam’s house!” Mum shouted from the kitchen as I played outside.

Scurrying towards the car with excitement, I jumped in, and CLANG! “AAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!” I cried out. The door jammed my finger. Mum saw what was happening from the kitchen and ran outside to me with an ice-pack. As the pack burned on my left index finger, all that I could think of doing at Aunt Bam’s house was just sitting down and reading a book. I HATE BOOKS!!

Driving through to Aunt Bam’s house onto the grass, I wondered if my cousin John was there. Poor mum had to open my door. Anyway, I felt like the KING OF THE WORLD!!........ (I wish.)
Slowly walking inside the door entrance, I hugged Bam and asked for John.
“No, John’s not here, he went to his friends Birthday Party, but other wise, you can watch T.V and read a Book?”

Loudly conversations were made with laughter from the dining room by Mum and Bam. I opened up a book called, ‘WOW!’ It looked pretty interesting because there was no picture on its cover. Leaning back onto the comfy lazy-boy seat, I began to read.

I realised that books could start to be one of my hobbies. This book ‘WOW’ had got me connected and made my day! As I read on through, something strange happened to the chair. It rocked, it roared, it made weird noises like a squeaking, creepy and horrid door which leads its way to DARKNESS! ‘Nah, it’s just the thing itself.’ I thought.

But it WAS’NT!!! Slowly crawling out from behind me was a-a-a-a-a............ CROCODILE!

It creeped up towards mum and aunt Bam whom were having a fun time. Staying quiet was I.

Uh-oh!

My Son is Naughty!

Jacks Sons from Team 5 PES on Vimeo.

Lisia and I made a film from the question (below) we had to answer. I was chosen to explain how we worked it out and solved it.

My Son is Naughty
Jack and Ray were at the rugby. Ray’s team was winning
so Jack decided to give Ray a problem to deflate his ego a
bit. So Jack said “Did you know that today is my three
sons’ birthday?” “How old are they?” Ray asked taking
the bite. “I’ll give you a hint. The product of their ages is
36 and the sum of their ages is 13,” Jack replied. “That’s
no help,” said Ray. So Jack weakened and gave him
another clue. “O.K. My youngest son is very naughty.”
“Nothing to it,” exclaimed Ray and he told Jack the
correct ages of his sons.
How did Ray figure out the correct answer and what are
Jack’s sons’ ages?

Paris Live on News - The Girl With Gold Locks!!

 http://s3.amazonaws.com/pizap_gallery/070913/medium/pizap.com10.406314581632614141373427194471.jpg

Reporter: We have just witnessed a girl name Paris who has been ignored by the kingdom her whole life. Paris is here with us today.
So Paris tell us about what has caused this critical situation.

Paris: Well, as you can see I was born with ambras syndrome and gold locks. Everyone who lived in the kingdom I had belonged to were brunette and somehow jealous about my beautiful hair. Ever since I was born all the way to my early teens, I was ignored by everyone in the kingdom.  I felt frightened as I heard in a private meeting that they were planning on killing me. My parents would always act like I wasn’t there at all. One day, I tried to get along with some of the people there, but they refused talking to me. The ignorant and opposition of the kingdom against me has increased a lot.

Reporter: WOW! Thats really sad to hear!

Paris: Yes, it is. It all started when I was brought into the castle of the King one night. He had given me 2 options which had made me afraid. My options were to either spend the rest of my life in prison or to be eaten by the LIONS!!! Of the kingdom. ‘Geeeees, what's up with these people.’ I thought.
After spending 5 years in prison, I was sentenced to caughts and had to live in a cold and dark underground lair. After 2 days sleeping without a blanket, pillow or any food, I felt like giving up until.............. I realized there has been people with me inside the underground lair. I was terrified that they could’ve killed me. But they too were worried and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Suddenly, there was a tall looking boy who drew near me and told me about his life and why he was with us.

I got use to not having any food or drink, even though it’s impossible. That boy had a similar story to mine and he too was kicked out of the same kingdom I was in. So I had looked up to him as a brother until one day.......... I found out he actually was my brother when he told me that everyone in the kingdom was the children of the KING! I was horrified as I thought I had my own family even though they neglected me too. Oh, no wonder why the king said, “My daughter, you have 2 options.....”

Reporter: WOW! Paris, im impressed you have found someone to look up to. I think that you have told us enough. No-one wants to see you feeling emotional. Thanks for being here with us. Well, that is us for today, see you tomorrow same time, same place!!! I am Hosannah Setefano, your reporter for today and this is, Wild life news. "Kakite a popo!"

'Prospective Yailo!'

During our team 5 literacy rotation, one of our task was to write about the short film we had watched, 'Prospective Student.'

Having to reach the top of an unsteady mountain, Yailo restlessly persevered his way through to be accepted into the ‘Class of Master’ with determination. Yailo wearily pushed himself up as he recognized the Dojo from afar. So he walked up the long hill in tiresome.

Finally arriving to the dojo, Yailo came to a monstrous door! He knocked in anxiety and hoped to be accepted in. Hearing footsteps coming closer, the major nerves went into him. A furious, funny looking Sensei answered the towered door and pointed to his right hand side. “What a waste of time!” Yailo thought.

Evening passed and morning came as Yailo moderated in front of the same door wishing the Sensei would welcome him in . Again, footsteps came towards him as he felt solicitous. Mighty Angus Sensei came out and pointed to his right again.

Sadly walking to the side, Yailo felt like he has been rejected BUT................. Grief and anguish suddenly came over him as he clutched his eyes in a mad manner. Returning back to the door, Yailo crouched in karate mode and surprisingly smashed the door open. The Sensei walked out again as Yailo was still in karate mode trying to discipline himself not to be afraid. It was the third time the Sensei had pointed to his right as Yailo realized he was pointing to the sign beside him saying, ‘Please use the side entrance.’ “Ooops, my bad.” Yailo thought in embarrassment.

Working With Joshua Iosefo!

We were fortunate to have Joshua Iosefo for our writing rotation. I was inspired by how he taught us about ‘Spoken Words’ and what they meant.

Spoken words means having a valuable voice and expressing our feelings to those around us. Joshua drew scribbles on the board and got us to write about how we thought about it. This was where my spoken words started:

I see random lines on the whiteboard and maybe it is a sign for our enviroment to be cleaner or it might be showing us a symbol of how our teachers are earning money for doing nothing.

After sharing our thoughts of how we felt about the scribbling, we were given a question and wrote about it.

Question: If you could say anything to the word, what would it be?

I compared the meanings to careless people in our project/community to think about what their doing to affect our environment. Also on those who condemn others by their skin colour or looks. I think that we can actually change the world by helping those who suffer or fail from school, work, or money. You may be wondering, “How could we change the world or make it a better place?” This had just reminded me on the movie, “Freedom Writers.” The teacher felt annoyed by her students complaining on how tedious school was. But she never gave up. She wanted them to leave school happily and for them to have a good courier in the future. So she thought about how she could make a change for them. What did she do? Well she handed them note-books each to treat as a diary and write anything on it especially about things happening to them at home and out of school. In the end of the movie, the students were inspired by their teacher and followed in her steps.

So we cannot just leave problems lying there and not fixing critical situation. MAKE A CHANGE!!

It was cool working with Joshua Iosefo!!!!

Weet Bix vs Nutri-Grain (Cereal Comparison)

Our team of students from the group of A1 in literacy were to find out the difference and similarities between the two cereal packages of 'Weet-Bix and Nutri-Grain.'

Mrs Nua also gave us questions to fill out:

WALT: Find and consider information from various sources. Looking at Visual Images and the messages they convey.

OUR AIM: To compare the nutritional value of two breakfast cereals.

1. What messages are given to you, the consumer, just by looking at the packaging? We read the facts and find out out many things it could help us with.

2. What do you think about the colouring of the two packages? Weet-bix shows bright and vibrant colours to make the weet-bix look unique and outstanding. Nutri grain has an old, hard steel that gives us a sign that our body could be as hard as steel.

3. Which one do you prefer and why? I prefer weet-bix

4. Which one do you think is better for you and why? Because it is NZ’s number 1 breakfast cereal and it is 97% whole grain and low sugar. And it is also my favourite ever cereal!

"Will.I.Am Visits Pt England School." (That Power Justin Bieber ft Will.I.Am)

A heap of cameras surrounded our school hall while we were all waiting for the amazing, world-wide rapper, WILL.I.AM!! Yip, the actual one! We were all determined to see him. Henry and I warmed up our voices in preparation. We are singing to him, Yay!

Everyone in the school hall silenced in agitation. Will.I.Am walked through the ‘entry’ door and we were all “WOWED!” By his amazing look.

Will.I.Am talked about his life and how he was raised in a very poor neighbour-hood. We were inspired by his speech about “Living The Dream!” Thank God he was here with us to share some of the amazing experience of what he did to become famous. Look at him now. We were also thankful because........................... He donated $100,000!! To the Manaiakalani Education Trust. Mr Burt along with the other principals from the eastern zone schools were surprised with happiness.

I enjoyed having Will.I.Am at our school. ‘Well done Pt England for being representative role-models.”

Room 15 Task

Because of that, Miss King got us to write a simpler meaning of his new song with Justin Bieber, ‘That Power.’

I compared the meanings of ‘That Power’ to his poor life and living. In between the song, he says, “I use to have a piggy bank, but now I have a bigger bank.” This is what got me thinking. When he was poor and had needed, he saved his money in a piggy bank for food and safe furniture. But now since he is famous, he has a bigger courier and a bigger bank! Justin Bieber also says ‘I’m alive and I can fly.’

If you can’t quite get it, here is the link to his new latest song “That Power.”

Persuasive Argument- "The Heart Attack Grill!"

Living without food could be hard. But think of the kids in Africa and in needy homes! Because of that, I am going to take on an adventure to........ T.H.A.G! “The Heart Attack Grill!”  (A food store where morbidly obese people eat bad food which leads to death FOR FREE!)

Our class did an activity about what we felt about The Heart Attack Grill.

Here's what I think: The first thing that pops up in my head was, ‘Why would someone operate a store that provides more fat to your body?’ I think that the “Heart Attack Grill” should not operate anywhere near us. Why? Well here are my reasons........

Reason 1: Their food contains ‘lard’ which is fat oil that can causes heart disease.

Reason 2: It can also bypass your heart which is an open heart surgery. An obese man named Blare who played the main part in their advertising commercial passed away recently from eating there everyday.

Reason 3: Another reason is because it is creating super obesity around our bodies, arteries and vessels.”

If T.H.A.G opened up in Glen Innes, I think that obesity among us will increase and there will be more fat and hardly any lives. The owner of the T.H.A.G food-store should know what really is in our food and how it effect our bodies.

Here is the video of “The Heart Attack Grill” held in America. Feel free to watch and leave a comment.

Meeting One Of The World's Most Famous Doctors

Have you heard about one of the world’s most famous doctors, Dr. Ben Carson? Well yesterday we went to see him and I was so excited to see him. Years 5 to 8 travelled by bus down to the telstra clear stadium. I’ve been there for my cousins wedding and for dinner. Even though it was a stadium, it can also be like a restaurant. Anyway, back to the story about Dr. Ben Carson. He is a really important and interesting man that has a really really really really really good EDUCATION!!!! I’ve seen his movie named “Gifted Hands.” It is a very good movie that I really started getting interested in. He talked to us about his life. Even though he spoke to us for long, it actually wasn’t boring. In the stadium, it was full of coloured clothes and it was great laughter. You should start studying about him. He was one of the first people to split to joint heads successfully. His words are “THINK BIG!” Dr. Ben Carson also has an acrostic poem for it. This is how it goes.

The Great Duffy Theatre

At our beautiful looking hall not long ago, there was a crew called “The Duffy Theatre” that came to perform in front of us. They were so talented and we all CRACKED UP!!! There were also lots of scenes. My favourite scene is when it was Emmy’s Birthday. She was so funny and big. It was great meeting “Duffy.” My favourite actor was “Scruffy.” He is Duffy’s little brother. I liked looking at the best book in the World. These were the other actors in the plays, “Marvel, Rocky, Wiri and SBW.

All my life, I have never read a lot. But When I saw that all Duffy wanted to do was reading, they gave me a good experienced kind of way to tempt to read a lot. Now why don't you start reading?

Being Cyber Smart

For this long year, I am learning about Cyber Smart. Do you know what it means. Have you been Cyber Smart so far? It is really cool learning about it because you can get good and better at things. If you are not sure of what this fantastic word means, then why don't you study it? There is a lot more kinds of smarts that matches Cyber Smart. Well, there is legal Smart, I hope you like my picture I drew on Tux Paint. These questions at the bottom shows you the question we ask ourselves.

1. Who am I connected to? I am connected to all my cousins because together, we act like “Brothers” and “Sisters.”

2. What am I sharing with others? That I can take responsibility of my own learning.

3. What impression of myself am I giving to others? I am giving a positive impression to others.

Netball With Liz

In the recent past, just one week ago, our class went to Netball with excitement. We met a new coach named Liz. She is one of the most experienced netball player I have really seen.

All of us might have remembered “Emma,” last years Netball coach? Well Liz helped us remember the same skills. We learnt the chest and a whole lot more It was SO HOT!! I can’t even handle it.

After all, we had a big game. Most of us worked really well together but some of them had some low-lights. I really enjoyed the big challenge.

Next, the game was over and we just lost by one point. I enjoyed it and I didn’t want it to stop. We just felt like we were a real Netball team.

After all we said goodbye to Liz, and that was the end of our fun day.

My Wonderful And Humorous Holiday

Welcome to 2012!!!! What is your new year’s resolution? Everyone has to have a resolution. (The word, “resolution” means, what goal do you have for this really long year?) My new years resolution is to lose weight. I know that sounds a bit funny but every time I look at the mirror, I imagine myself working out on a treadmill for about 20 minutes. Anyway! You just can’t believe how fun my Holiday was. There is a lot more than what I am going to write, but it is just too long and fun.

Some of you might of known that my birthday was during the holidays. I went to the movies and I had Burger King to celebrate it. I watched the fantastic movie called “ We Bought A Zoo.” It is really cool and many people watched it. Then like a week after that, a lot of my cousins, aunties and uncles came over and we had a big BBQ to celebrate my birthday AGAIN!!! I was just so amazed, and plus it was better than the movies! We had a massive water fight and everyone enjoyed the delicious food. Especially my mum’s Macaroni Cheese and Bacon!!! MMMmmmm!!!!!!!!!! I had lots of presents. One of the presents I got from my uncle who is like an older brother to me were 2 school bags and a whole lot more. They were both Puma bags and I gave one of them to my oldest sister and I said “thank you” to her for organizing everything for my birthday party. I reeeeaaaallllyyyy!!! Enjoyed that day that I will never forget.

I’m sure some may have known or have seen Malia. The person who taught the “ End Of Time” Beyonce dance? And the person who taught the glee “ Who Run the World” dance? Well it was her 21st birthday not long ago and she wanted me to choose some people to do the “End Of Time” dance at her birthday. Malia goes to the same church as I do. As well as Mrs Tele’a, Mrs Tuala, Esrah, Jordenne, Tui, Vanila, Toreka, Justice, and a whole LOT more from our school!!!!!!!! So I went and got 2 people from the "Army" dance in the production, "Webzidazical" to com and dance with me. So I went and chose Tui and Jordenne because they were the only two that I know where they live. We practice at my house on our deck like about 12 times a day. Finally, it was the real day. There was a lot of food and it was DELICIOUS!!! Her big celebration day was at our church hall.  When it was time for us to dance, I said a speech. Next we started our dance. Jordenne, Tui, and I aced it. Everyone in the hall was suprised and amazed of our dance. We gave it the best we can, and everybody was proud of us. I can never forget that night.

During the special holiday, I got to sleep in. My cousin’s and I slept at 2:30 in the morning, and woke up at about 11am. We were proud that we got to sleep late.

Sometime later, Feeling sad and tired that the longest holiday ever was over, I came to school early in the morning. I just could not wait until the next holiday. As soon as I heard that I was in Mr Harris’s class, I asked myself, “ is he fun? Is he enthusiastic? Is he a cool teacher to understand?” When I walked into his class room which was room 19, the questions I asked myself were both, “YES.” He is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had.  I felt glad.
